History
In 1946, pilot Édouard Joly and engineer Jean Delemontez joined forces to form the Jodel aircraft company, based in Beaune.
First, they built the Jodel D9 Bébé, a single-seater with a fixed train and an open cockpit, designed to be built by amateurs.
The next aircraft was a closed-cabin, side-by-side tandem aircraft, the D11. It made its first flight on 05 May 1950. The D11 was built by different French companies, but also in Germany and Spain, as well as by amateurs from all countries.
The different versions differed only by details, had designations such as D11A, D112, D117, D119 and D120. Our D119 has been made in Spain and stands out for its more powerful engine and its wheel fairings.
The Jodels were to constitute the restart of amateur construction in the 1950s and 1960s, and allow the access to aviation of many enthusiasts thanks to their low price of construction and use.
Robin’s planes built Jodels. This is probably why the Jodel wing with flat center and raised ends on some aircraft of this manufacturer.
